Aapo Rapi’s (born in 1977) comics are in many ways very Finnish. His warm and straightforward storytelling is, however, universally appealing. His graphic novel Meti (2008) was nominated for the best album at the Angoulême International Comic Festival. Full of dialect and unruly humor, Meti is the story of Aapo’s grandmother. Rapi tells stories with a similar ease in his four other graphic novels. Naaburger (2009) is a strip collection about a man who just can’t get enough junk food – and falls in love with the employee at his local burger joint. Two of Rapi’s works, Meti and Pullapoika (2005), have been translated into French.
